IOT solution to help customers in the manufacturing industry digitze their work and bring great improvements in efficiency.
My Role
I was the lead product designer in charge of the design alignment working closely with the product team. I was in charge of gathering requirements, defining roadmap and executing on deliverables.
The Challenge
Manufacturing Insights was created through collaboration across teams from India and Japan that didn’t align to the Hitachi Vantara overall style guide and caused many gaps in the design and overall experience. The product team wanted to make sure we updated the overall design to match the look and feel we use for all Hitachi Vantara applications following our design system guidelines.
Discovery sessions to get up to date
I worked with PM, PO, BA, and other designers through multiple sessions to get a full understanding of the application, any existing feedback from users, identifying inconsistencies, and how we got to the current design.
UX Review to identify inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement
Next I did a full UX review of the application by diving into each screen in the build and trying to identify any usabilty issues, check components if there were any inconsistencies and which ones needed to align to the Hitachi style guide.
Continuous iteration and review
I updated the design on old components to the new style and created new designs for components not already in the library. I collaborated with the design system team to review my updated components and update the library with the latest designs.

Scalable design
Added timer
Simplifed view to focus better
Final Aligned Design
After multiple iterations and discussions with other teams we reached our final aligned design in both wicked and dawn themes.
Delivery and continuous improvement
Next I reviewed the design with the product team and handed it over to the engineer team to build in the next release. As the lead designer for this application I am in charge of gathering user feedback post release and continue to improve the overall user experience. User testing and review of new application build are on the roadmap following post release.
